The Air Maui Hana Haleakala Tour is a perfect activity for the whole family, as any age can fly, and you will experience a thousand magnificent views in a perfect and timeless 45 minute exploration of East Maui. The helicopters are roomy and comfortable, altitude changes are gradual, and the spectacular scenery changes constantly. (Plus, the convenience is unparalleled: you’ll see an incredible number of sights without any traffic, parking hassles, carsickness, or changing of clothes.)

Climbing the slopes of Haleakala Crater while inside a helicopter is a powerful experience! The strange and beautiful landscape of colored earth and volcanic ash and cinder cones stretches out in all directions, and its texture will remain in your memory long after your tour. The “House of the Sun,” where legends say the demi-god Maui captured the bright orb and forced him to move more slowly across the sky, reaches its peak at 10,023 feet, and you will glide by this summit!

You will travel above the lush tropical rainforests of Hana, hover next to streaming waterfalls, and fly across deep valleys. Also on the Air Maui Hana Haleakala Tour, you will have an overview of the Road to Hana, the town of Hana, and the largest Hawaiian ruins still standing. Golf courses, celebrities’ mansions, and popular surfing spots will cruise by beneath you. You will see Kahului Harbor, fields full of pineapple and macadamia nuts, and the sugar cane factory. You will glimpse the nearby islands of Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe, and depending on what the sky is up to, you may be able to see the Big Island of Hawaii!

Maui is covered in magnificent plant life. On the Air Maui Hana Haleakala Tour, you will float above many, including California redwoods and Hawaiian koa trees. The koa (the only tree native to the Hawaiian Islands) was once used to build outrigger racing canoes and athlete Duke Kahanamoku’s 114 pound, eleven foot long surfboard. This tree is now endangered, and its wood may only be harvested once a tree has fallen.

Other plants covering the landscape are guava, eucalyptus, melaleuca, giant Hawaiian ferns, and the red flowering African tulip tree. You will also see the ohialehua tree, which has a romantic and tragic creation myth that your knowledgeable pilot will likely tell you on your trip.

The flight is smooth, and you are apt to forget you are flying in a helicopter at all. You might think there would be a constant loud beating of helicopter blades, but once you are settled inside the cockpit with your headphones on, that sound fades away nicely. If you are bringing the kids, put one child on photo duty and another on drawing the landscape and you’re good to go! TIP: Clouds build as the day progresses, so for the best visibility, book the earliest flight that you can.

The Air Maui Hana Haleakala Tour experience is an unforgettable one, and you will have an amazing time soaring through East Maui! Enjoy yourselves!
