A fully submerged Maui Submarine Tour not quite your speed? The Reef Dancer may be your calling.
Enjoy a smooth ride with air-conditioned comfort aboard the yellow Maui submarine. Your speedy check-in begins at Slip #6 in the historical Lahaina Harbor, where you are issued boarding passes and a unique fish chart to help you identify all the underwater critters you may encounter on the journey. What a wonderful way to experience the many marvels of Maui sea life without leaving your seat! Truly one of Maui’s most family friendly activities, this is great for kids of all ages. Once onboard the Maui submarine, you’ll be directed to the lower level where every guest will have their very own window seat. Don’t worry about being on the wrong side of the boat; it is easily maneuverable for 360 degree viewing! Since the Reefdancer is a semi-submersible submarine, you and the family will always have the option to come back up to the top deck.
Upon your arrival to the viewing destination, expert divers search the reef for specimen to bring to your window. This is a great photo opportunity and gives you a chance to really inspect the marine life up close. Usual suspects include pencil urchins, octopus, starfish, sea cucumbers and a variety of shellfish. While your divers keep everyone engaged, the narrator also comments on the numerous species of fish and coral below. Consider the two stop, 90-minute tour, for a better chance at viewing the Hawaiian green sea turtle or honu in their natural habitat.
Along your ride back to the harbor, it is your choice to stay below deck or head upstairs for a breath of fresh air. The views from the top are of the stunning West Maui Mountains and maybe even the Pacific humpback whale in season (December – April).
One hour tours depart throughout the day at 10am, 11:15am and 1pm as well as a 90 minute adventure at 2:15pm.
