Maui snorkeling is awesome at Molokini and Turtle Town.

Choosing your Maui snorkeling boat is a fun decision to make, and a boat tour on the Calypso is one of the most fun!  The high-speed triple-decker catamaran will drive you to two snorkel sites: Molokini Crater and Turtle Town.  This vessel is large and stable.  It is the biggest boat moored in Ma’alaea Harbor, and arguably one of the smoothest rides on Maui.  You will have plenty of opportunities to make some great marine memories, because there will be time to snorkel for over an hour in each beautiful place.

Your boat leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor.  As you come aboard in the morning, you’ll meet your friendly crew and take a look at the delicious, hearty breakfast they’ve laid out for you.  After you are settled in, it’s off to Molokini – the most iconic Maui snorkeling site ever!  Check out the boat and get used to the feel of the ocean wind in your hair.  From December through April, be sure to keep an eye out for the magnificent humpback whales!

Molokini Crater rises from the ocean floor between the islands of Maui and Kaho’olawe.  This amazing site is not only home to several fish species, but many species of birds, as well!  The crater is a bird preserve and Marine Life Conservation District.  It’s a no-fishing/no-climbing zone, but wearing flippers and a mask to watch the fish is perfectly fine (actually, it’s incredible!).

This underwater bowl shelters a huge reef where the visibility can be over 100 feet!  All colors of fish cruise by as you float above.  While you are exploring on your Molokini snorkel, there is a chance you’ll see spotted eagle rays, eels, and jacks.  Even if you have never snorkeled before, or you are not a strong swimmer, you may still snorkel with the Calypso.  The crew will make sure you are instructed in the use of their snorkel equipment.

The boat is fully stocked with comfortable flotation devices, rentable wetsuits to keep you warm, and prescription masks for those of us who wear glasses.  Plus, there are awesome underwater cameras available for rent, as well.  When was the last time you took a selfie with a humuhumu’ele’ele (black triggerfish)?

And if you are already familiar with Maui snorkeling, and you would like to go a step deeper, Calypso has snuba available, too!  You can spend a lot more time hanging with the fishes when you are accompanied by a guide and attached by a 10-foot air tube to a tank floating on the surface. No experience is required.  Whether you swim, snorkel, or snuba, the boat’s underwater photographer will be on hand to capture that perfect shot of you and your group.

Getting into and out of the water is easy on Calypso.  Wide staircases are lowered right into the water, making it simple and low-stress to find your way to the fish.  This is similar to the technology used by tour boats traveling to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.  If you prefer a more thrilling ocean entry than walking down a flight of stairs, Calypso provides two water slides and a jumping-off platform for your delight!  And just so you know, Calypso is also equipped with restrooms, and freshwater showers for rinsing off the salt water.

For those who would rather not partake in Maui snorkeling, Calypso has four glass panels in the bottom of the boat!  This means everyone in the family will be able to see parts of the coral reef, and to watch the fish.

After the Molokini snorkeling, Calypso will also take you to Turtle Town—a second awesome snorkeling spot.  Off the south side of Maui, Turtle Town is home to several sea turtles as well as lots of amazing reef fish.  A barbecue lunch with vegetarian options will be served at this time, and water, sodas, and juice are available all day long.

On the way back to the harbor, you’ll swing by La Perouse along the southern coast. Keep your eyes peeled for the Hawaiian spinner dolphins who spend time in this bay. And just when you thought the day couldn’t get any better, the crew will come around with chocolate chip cookies! Oh, yeah!

All snorkel spots are visited weather permitting.  If Molokini snorkeling conditions are less than ideal, Coral Gardens off the west side of Maui is usually the Captain’s next choice.  Book a Calypso tour for you and your family today, and have fun!

We enjoyed the trip overall. Crew was nice, safety was obviously paramount. We paid $200+ for this snorkeling trip and thought maybe it might have been over priced. You don’t need a wetsuit and a go pro will capture everything the rented cameras “with color filters” will capture. Serious hard sell. The visibility was amazing. Equipment was adequate. We went from Molokini to another place instead of turtletown which was unexpected. (Even the crew were asking “where’s he going?”).
Food is below average and sort of awful for the price. Alcohol is offered for an extra fee.

Crew was very pleasant and boat was great. I appreciate the fact that they were able to reschedule us to a different day with last minute notice. Would highly recommend. Can’t say enough about how thorough they were about safety first.

Overall, the trip was fine but not great. The food was pretty bad and the vegetarian option was terrible. The staff was nice and seemed to know what they were doing. I didn’t like the hard push for tips at the end, or the hard sell on wet suits and cameras. The water was nice and the scenery was beautiful but it felt like a crowded, money-making tourist trap in a lot of ways.

Molokini snorkeling on the Quicksilver was a terrific experience. The crew was fun and energetic, saw hundreds of fish as both locations! Definitely an experience I’m glad we did. Arrive early so you can get a window seat for whale watching.

    EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.
I AM GOING TO WRITE A REVIEW ON TRIP ADVISOR AND YELP FOR how disappointed we were.
We were originally scheduled to go to Molokino on Manolo on 3/10, Brock canceled that trip saying it was too windy. He neglected to tell us that your sister ship, Quiksilver, went that day and saw Molokini.
We rescheduled for the very next day to Quiksilver, this time we boarded the boat and 15 minutes later were told it was too windy to go to Molokini. We paid $160 for a trip that never happened. We went to Makena beach (a place we had already been before and had traveled there by car). Totally pointless to go there and he wasted time there when everyone was done snorkeling, he killed time for another 45 minutes forcing us to stay there. I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND THINK WE DESERVE A FULL REFUND. That same day on 3/11 when Quiksilver only went to Makena we saw SEVERAL OTHER BOATS including Lanikai and Trilogy that went to MOLOKINI (We saw with our binoculaurs). When I told BROCK about that, he ignored us and said it’s because those boats are smaller (which makes no sense because bigger boats are more stable). DISAPPOINTED AND WANT A REFUND. BROCK IS WAY TOO CONSERVATIVE AND NOT A GOOD TOUR GUIDE.

Great crew. Everyone helpful and polite. Traveling with special needs sister they took great care with her. Ui was a big help. Best boat to go on. Had a lot of turtles to see at turtle town. Saw eel and octopus and many different fish at Molokini.
Even Jen (English accent) who booked our trip was awesome. Thanks again to all.

Took the morning Quicksilver trip to Molokini and Turtle Town, USA. We were able to watch the sea turtles graze along the rocks at Turtle Town, USA. One curious turtle swam up to us to take a look. Neat! At Molokini, we saw a great variety of fish, including a large moray eel. The Quicksilver has two decks. We sat in front on the lower deck. If you are like us and want to be close to the water, this is where you should sit. This is our second year taking this snorkeling trip (last year, we took the Malolo). Both boats provide an absolutely delightful snorkeling experience. Highly recommended.

It was a perfect day for snorkeling! We saw tons of fish and sea turtles, the water was crystal clear. The staff was super friendly and professional! The food was tasty, the drinks were good and cheap, and as an added bonus the whale watching was amazing. We even got a cool trivia tour of the coast. All in all the best value on our trip!

    :

We went to the tour hoping to go to snorkel at Molokini and Turtle town as advertised. The weather was windy so we were not able to go to these places. Instead we were taken only to Coral Gardens. The tour was much shorter than advertised (5.5 hours) and we were back after only 3 hours. We ended up with a total snorkeling time that was a little bit over an hour. We were not informed about the change of plans during the trip. We didn’t know that we were not going to Molokini or Turtle Town even though the captain and crew did know. We didn’t know that we were not going to any other place when we got out of water at Coral Gardens.

We were told that the ocean temperature is about 10 degrees colder before snorkeling so most of the people rented wet suits. It probably is in Molokini and away from the coast, but I am pretty sure it wasn’t in Coral Gardens. I felt it was only said to convince us to rent the wet suits. I know we were not the only ones frustrated by this as one other group refused to pay for the wet suit rental since the water was not that much colder.

I understand that the tour is weather permitting, but I expected that we would get equivalent replacement in terms of snorkeling time or at least visit 2 places. A partial refund or the option to reschedule the tour would have also been appreciated. We had the option to go with other companies that offered cheaper and shorter tours but we wanted the longer tour and unfortunately we ended up paying more for something we didn’t get. The crew did offer free drinks to compensate but we don’t drink and saving $2 for a drink does not make a difference when your company saved A LOT of money on fuel and time by not going to Molokini.

We were very disappointed that we didn’t get what we paid for and will not recommend or use Quicksilver services again.

This was a nice trip, the day we went was a little windy so the snorkeling was not as good as it could be. We did see some whales at a bit of a distance on the way to and from the crater. The crew was great the food was good and the equipment was well maintained. I was glad I spent the extra $10 for the wetsuit as the water in the crater was cooler than I expected.
