Royal Lahaina Luau – one of the best Maui luaus.

The Royal Lahaina Luau is fun for the whole family. The backdrop for this longest running Maui luau is incredible. Watch the sun set into the Pacific at the world famous Kaanapali Beach! A shell lei greeting begins your evening. Then, you’ll gather around the underground oven (imu) for the traditional unwrapping of the pig.

See spellbinding performances from Samoa, Tahiti, Hawaii, and New Zealand.  Each song and dance is presented with beauty and authenticity. The master of ceremonies guides the night of dancers, live Hawaiian musicians, and a spectacular fire knife dancer! You’ll experience beating drums, flaming torches, and rhythmic movement and chants. And we haven’t even mentioned the food!

The Royal Lahaina Luau menu offers a vast array of delicacies and desserts. It includes pork, chicken, fish, beef, vegetables, rice, salad, and other favorites. Several vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are part of the buffet. An open bar is included in the package. Drinks include cocktails, beer, wine, soft drinks, fruit punch, coffee, and tea.

“But what about the kids’ appetites?” you may be asking. Lucky for you, this is the only luau on Maui that offers a kids’ menu. The children will enjoy chicken nuggets, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and potato chips! You can upgrade your tickets to preferred first row seating.  This also puts you first in line at the buffet.

Children are invited onto the stage to learn the hula.  This moment provides a great photo opportunity for their parents.  The Royal Lahaina Luau ends with a fantastic fire knife dance finale! Dancers will meet with guests after the show for more photo opportunities. After the incredible performances end, you’ll have enchanting luau memories to cherish for years to come.

Food was good & performance was good too. I was hoping to be wowed but it was still nice. Tables did not have candle or torches near by and there for there was flies & mosquitos while we ate. They ran out of souvenir cups for purchase almost as soon as The event begin. However staff was very friendly. Experience was good but not great.

    :

The only other luau I’ve attended was on Oahu at Ko Olina, so when comparing with that, this one is smaller and offers less. However, it was nicely done. The show was great and the food was good. I liked that the buffet was open the whole time and food wasn’t scarce. One thing that would have been nicer is if it were more clear where to get non-alcoholic drinks/ refills. I guess it was at the bar but it wasn’t obvious. We only had our POG from entering while we were there. I had expected there to be table servers. Fine that there wasn’t–just better instructions would be nice. Loved the fire dancers and the opening prayer.

Great family entertainment. Food was varied and the kids enjoyed the event. My only feedback is that it took forever to get inside especially when we were told to be there at 6pm. Had I known I would have waited to come later. Beautiful evening and we are glad we attended.

We didn’t book “VIP” and felt like second class citizens. Didn’t know there was a VIP option. Food was good but not great. Show was good but not great. We were in Maui in 1999 and saw the Luau at the Marriott which left us with an amazing memory that we hoped would have been rekindled by this Luau… but that was not the case. This Luau felt like the bare minimum.

We have been to this Luau 2 other times before, and decided to go back again. The food was great, and we enjoyed the show, although in the past I think the show may have been longer. It seemed like there was a lot of down time before the show really got started, but we still enjoyed it. The fire knife dancers at the end are always so awesome. We also had a 14 month old with us, and he seemed to enjoy it as well, and they have lots of kid friendly options too. Would highly recommend.

Entering the event we were greeted with a photographer which really made for a “luau” carpet experience and then after checking in we started off with a cocktail. The dinner buffet was lovely and vegetarian friendly which I was thrilled about and the performance and invitation to learn how to Luau also were both entertaining and exciting! Matched the the sunset view and the beautiful weather, I couldn’t have asked for more. The only downside were that the mai thai’s were not phenomenal but thank goodness there were many other drinks to choose from

Great location, right on the beach. We had poor visibility due to the folks sitting in front of us. Get there really early to get in the front of the line and the pick of seats for your assigned table. Sit on the end closest to the stage. You can pay extra to get up front seating. The food was mediocre buffet food. The show was good. I would not pay the price to attend again.

Really fun for families. We had a group of 16 (6 adults- 10 kids ages 8-15) I’d been to a Luau before, and thought we didn’t need to spend the money and take all the kids- but the kids LOVED it. This luau is well paced, and the food was better than I thought- but I had low expectations from my previous Luau experience (The meats were great!) It was one of the highlights of our trip.

It was ok. I was expecting audience participation. The dancers were great! The servers were friendly but lacked enthusiasm. The checking people were not friendly at all. The food was decent. Nothing to rave about. I don’t know if I would recommend it to friends and if I did, I definitely would let them know not to expect much.

    :

Overall the entertainment was great!! Couple things to maybe consider: Have sales person at time of purchase mention vip tics; I would’ve paid extra not to wait in line for over an hour. I was told to be at Luau at 5 but technically didn’t need to be there until 6. Have a “singles luau” for those not on vacation with family. Over 400 people was a bit much. Also some of the hot food was cold by the time it was served.

Very good show for the money! Good food and plenty of it, and the flame sword show is awesome! Good for kids too. As far as “authentic luaus”, I prefer Old Lahaina Luau, but its far more pricey and this one was a lot of fun.

We didn’t know about the VIP option until we got there. The associates were very helpful in letting us upgrade our tickets and we were glad we did. We got early admittance privileges, which meant little to no lines to eat, and to get drinks. The food was outstanding and plentiful, and the show was beautiful. The children really enjoyed the fire dances. The dancers we very gracious at the end and posed for pictures with everyone. It was a great experience for the whole family! We will highly recommend it to our friends. Again, the VIP was well worth the upgrade.

The food and entertainment was great, but I feel as though the seating was not as organized as it seemed. Although we were all seated accordingly, which I appreciated, we sat for almost 2 hours before any of us were able to get good. Showing up hungry and ready for a promised buffet (which was great once I got to it by the way), I started to get very grumpy and frustrated after an hour. I recommend having meals ready to be served sooner.

The dinner buffet had great options for salads, sides, meats, seafood, and dessert. Even the poi was better than the previous time I’d tasted it at another luau on Oahu some years ago. The drink options were appropriate for the event, complemented the meal, and were well made and delivered to our table quickly, as often as desired – the best Mai Tai I’ve ever had. The show itself was entertaining and informative, from the history and presentation of the imu oven, to the descriptions of the various island myths and cultures throughout Hawaii and the South Pacific. The Haka and fire dancing were highly entertaining; a great way to end a show that had good pacing and ran for an appropriate length of time. I would definitely recommend the experience to families or anyone who’d never been to a luau.

    :

Loved the hula and the music. The dancers must’ve been tired! What great performers they are! The food was delicious overall. My only criticism is about the wait to get in/the queue. It seems almost a punishment to arrive early and be made to stand for >45 minutes to an hour. We were also approached by no less than 4 different staff members to check us in while we were in line. Seemed disorganized/fragmented. Also, if the “event” starts at 6pm, shouldn’t there be some pupu/appetizers for the guests? Myself and several other people around were very hungry-eating 1.5 hours after event “start” time. I had a headache from the extended wait.

This is our second time attending the Laua. This time it was a geat as ever. The hostess was fantastic and we thought she was here back in 2012 when we lady came. The fire throwing and tweeting was fantastic. The food was excellent and way more than I even could want. The open bar was fantastic and our VIP seats at the front of the stage were perfect. Keep it up and we will return to our favorite island and will be back for another laui.

    :

I payed an extra 30 dollars per person to be seated at the VIP area, get priority entrance and receive a fresh flower lei (for ladies) and kukui nut lei (for men). I noticed that there isn’t exactly a designated “VIP” area- rather that you are just seated closer to the stage. There were plenty of guests that were seated alongside us that did not pay the extra fee to sit close up and I felt that it was very deceitful to promote this “VIP” seating when anyone can actually sit in the area as long as there is room. Furthermore, the way the VIP seating was designated is not fairly carried out. I saw groups of people that clearly were not “VIP” seated dead center front stage while others that were “VIP” were seated further away. This does take away from the overall experience because this “VIP” privilege takes advantage of those willing to pay extra.

The dinner and show were great! While nothing can be done about the downpour of rain, our experience would have been much more enjoyable under cover. I would have expected our seating to be covered or a covered area just to the back of the seating to have a direct, standing view of the stage. Besides being wet and cold and having to go directly to the airport, the staff was warm, hospitable, and the show entertaining (when we were not dodging the rain). We especially liked the prayer at the beginning of dinner.

Once inside the Luau it was great. Food and entertainment very good. The line up before hand was very disorganized. Ticket stub said be there for check in at 5, but when we arrived we were told check in was now at 6. No one seemed to be in charge and different people telling us different things as to how to line up

  58. Kristi M.

    :

    – Arrival/Entering the Luau seemed unorganized and an incredibly slow process with several lines and no communication as to where guests needed to be or what each line was for. – Pre-made Mai Tais, etc. were terrible. – The food was ok. It felt like a cattle call while they were escorting tables to the buffet. – The dances were good, I enjoyed learning/seeing the traditional dances from the different islands. Several dancers seemed off or as if they had not all rehearsed together prior to the show. – Overall, I liked the luau experience but I think it’s incredibly overpriced for what you get.

The luau was great. Two things I would want improved: The reservation from Boss Frogs said check in was at 5 and luau started at 5:30. In fact the times were 6 for check in and 6:30 for luau to start. That made for a looonng wait in line. Also, we had 16 kids in our party and were the last table to be excused through the food lines. That was a long wait too.

This was not at all what we expected. Our voucher said check-in time was at 5, we waited a very long time in line to get in. Then we waited such a long time to eat. The setting was not relaxing or nice- our kids liked the show, but otherwise we were not at all impressed. We also didn’t like the food or buffet style. For paying so much money- we expected soooo much more.

Great night but should be clear when booking that your seat location is predetermined. Got there extra early to ensure good seats then had to manage 2 toddlers for an hour while lined up in a parking lot. Better communication vs people putting up taped signs while not talking to the waiting guests would be helpful. However the show and meal were excellent.

Everything was great. The only thing negative I would say would be the wait in line. Based on our receipt, it said check in was 5 PM and the start time was 5:30 PM. The line didn’t even start moving until about 5:45. The food was decent. Not extravagant but it was okay.

Pros The dancing and entertainment was great! Location was wonderful Cons Did not start on time- The ticket said to arrive at 5 and to be seated by 5:30…. That did not happen. We were seated by 6:30 and waited over an hour in line. Food was mediocre at best. Kinda bland for Hawaiian food. Did not have proper accommodations for bad weather. Gave us ponchos when it rained, but had to eat dinner in the rain. Our food got really wet. Ended early. Maybe because of the weather? Paid full price for half a show. Overall it was O.K. but had better experience in other Luaus.

The line process to get in was not good. Was split up from family. There has to be a better way. Sometimes, just telling people what’s going on is helpful, rather than curt instructions to “go stand there”, “now go stand there”. Once in, everything changed; food entertainment and smoothness of petitions was phenomenal. Enjoyed talking with the staff; super friendly and awesome! Thanks much! Will recommend!

Wish guests could have observed the pig being dig up and cut up for eating. Not sure we even ate the pig they showed on stage because of how quickly they served diner afterwards…10 minutes didn’t seem like it was enough time to cut the entire pig up for serving. Also, the show seemed very short. Seemed very rushed at times. Seats were horribly uncomfortable and not optimally positioned for viewing the stage, even for VIP seating. Food was good.
