For your Molokini snorkel trip, you’ll want the most attentive boat crew, and that requires you to choose Trilogy Excursions Maui. These folks give individual attention to each passenger on board their double hulled sailing vessels as they voyage throughout the Maui Nui Basin.
Molokini is one of the most popular snorkeling destinations, and once you see the coral reef that has grown within the volcanic crater, you’ll understand why. Fish of many colors, shapes, speeds, and sizes live and swim inside the crater. Some can camouflage themselves. Many stand out and are easily seen, almost like live holiday decorations! You are likely to see animals you may have only read about up to this point, such as the spotted eagle ray. If whale season is in full swing when Trilogy Excursions Maui takes you out (December – April), you will see humpback whales while you are underway. Once you are in the water snorkeling, you are also highly likely to HEAR the whales singing! Whale song is an incredible, unforgettable series of sounds that can be heard for miles around—and the song itself changes every year.
Trilogy travels to Molokini Crater at two separate times every morning: 7:00 am and 8:00 am, and the excursion lasts 5 ½ hours. Continental breakfast (including homemade cinnamon rolls) is served on the way, and an amazing BBQ teriyaki chicken lunch is served after you snorkel. (There is a vegetarian option for lunch, as well. Just let them know your preference when you book.) For those passengers 21 and over, 2 alcoholic beverages are included–post-snorkel, of course. Trilogy Excursions Maui provides all snorkel gear, including wetsuit tops for your comfort as well as all the instruction you may need. You can also upgrade your activity to SNUBA once you are onboard, of you like. SNUBA allows you to stay underwater quite a bit longer and explore several feet deeper than you can while snorkeling on the surface.
But what about sea turtles? Trilogy knows of an amazing spot that is just chock full of the Hawaiian honu, and they will take you there after Molokini. Awesome, right? A second amazing snorkel site! Mother Nature dictates which snorkel sites are available on which days, and the captain listens to her. Although Molokini is always the desired location, the captain will take you to the safest spots with the best visibility.
Trilogy leaves from Maalaea Harbor, and check in for this fabulous activity is fifteen minutes prior to departure time, at 6:45 am or 7:45 am. You will return at either 12:30 pm or 1:30 pm. So grab your towels, sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats, and get ready for an amazing time out on the water!
